Priscilla Gonzalez Challenges Congressman Clay Higgins to Public Debate in Louisiana’s 3rd Congressional District
LAFAYETTE, LOUISIANA — October 6, 2026 — Priscilla Gonzalez, candidate for the US CONGRESS in Louisiana’s 3rd Congressional District, is formally challenging Congressman Clay Higgins to participate in a public debate before voters.
Gonzalez is calling for a fair, public debate that gives voters across Louisiana’s 3rd Congressional District an opportunity to hear directly from both candidates, ask questions, and compare their positions on the issues affecting families and communities throughout the district.
“The people of Louisiana’s 3rd Congressional District deserve to hear directly from the candidates seeking to represent them in Washington,” said Priscilla Gonzalez. “I am ready to stand before the voters, answer their questions, explain my positions, and be held accountable for the commitments I make. I am formally inviting Congressman Clay Higgins to join me in a public debate and give voters the opportunity to hear from both of us.”
Gonzalez is requesting that the debate be conducted under mutually agreed-upon rules, with an independent moderator and equal opportunities for both candidates to respond to questions and discuss their positions.
Among the issues Gonzalez believes deserve direct discussion during the campaign are the economy, government spending, healthcare, education, public safety, infrastructure, energy, veterans’ affairs, border security, and the priorities of Louisiana’s communities.
“Voters should not have to rely solely on campaign advertisements, social media posts, or statements from political organizations to understand where candidates stand,” Gonzalez said. “A public debate provides an opportunity for candidates to answer questions directly and for voters to make their own informed decisions.”
Gonzalez is calling on Congressman Higgins to publicly respond to the debate invitation and work with the campaign, local media organizations, civic organizations, or another independent host to establish a mutually agreeable date, location, format, and moderator.
The Gonzalez campaign welcomes Louisiana media outlets and civic organizations interested in hosting or moderating a debate to contact the campaign.
